Alicia Keys Says No More To Makeup - Embraces Natural Beauty

The choice to embrace her natural beauty began earlier this summer, when she penned an essay about her choice to stop wearing makeup. Since then, she's faced cameras, high profile events, and even award shows with her real face, no embellishments or three hour long hair and makeup.

Her turning point was interestingly enough, during a photo shoot. A classic time in which makeup and hair are just part of the job description.

"It wasn't until I walked into one of my first shoots for my new album recently that the issue was front and center again. I'd just come from the gym, had a scarf under my baseball cap, and the beautiful photographer Paola (never met a Paola I didn't like) said, "I have to shoot you right now, like this! The music is raw and real, and these photos have to be too!" She wrote in her essay.

The surprising results from the photo shoot showed Keys a real and raw version of herself. She loved it. It is now the cover art for her song, In Common.

No one is surprised that Alicia turned heads, the 15-time Grammy Award winning singer always does. What is truly amazing is that she chose to break out of the usual red carpet glam, making a statement about celebrities that is more down to earth than we're used to. Equally important, she doesn't makeup shame for those that like to dress it up. For her, it's a personal decision that came from insecurities. The musical icon may just inspire some more girls to embrace themselves naturally and fully.

"'Cause I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing." She ended off her essay.
