Dress To Impress

FASHION STYLES CHANGE BUT MODESTY NEVER DOES

Philippians 1:20

"According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death." -Philippians 1:20

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there is a lot more to say about the way we dress up. The way we style ourselves by putting on clothes speaks a lot about our personality. It varies which culture we are from, our beliefs, and even our personality. Occasions a lot of times require a specific dress code. Season changes, so as our clothing too.

Other people may be impressed and pleased with the way we dress. They can describe our temperament right in a snap by our fashion ideas. The way we combine colors, how we incorporate our culture, and how we put on pairs.

A LESSON FROM SCHOOL ON PROPER DRESS

When I was in grade school, my teacher did not allow me to enter the classroom for not wearing our school uniform. I ended up being punished and not being able to sit in the class until the afternoon. My heart was filled with anger, and all I could do was cry. I was not given even a single explanation for why I was punished like that. But as I grew up and knew Jesus Christ, I saw people of different skin colors trying their very best to wear clothes that fit their style, and most especially, clothes that bring honor to God. Before they brought out their best wear, they made sure they offered their bodies a living sacrifice, presentable in the sight of God as they worship and serve their Creator.

Romans 12:1 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

MODESTY AS FOUND IN JUDE

Let’s look at how vital dressing is in the sight of God. In Jude 23, we find another, a reasonably rather dramatic instance of clothing used to symbolize a right standing. Jude talks about a person wearing a garment “stained by the flesh,” and Jude’s choice of the Greek word chiton (kee-tone) here is significant. A chiton was a long garment traditionally worn under one’s cloak close to the skin and a chiton was usually worn by new converts during baptism, the formal entrance into right standing with God.

The metaphor of garments as representative of one’s standing with God is carried on into Revelation where we find a host of allusions to garments, clothing, or robes. As a result, it is in the book of Revelation where the clothing metaphor finds its fullest expression. Look at the mention of garments in the letter to Sardis:

Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. – Revelation 3:4-5

Then at the end of the same chapter, whereas a part of the severe letter to Laodicea, Christ points out that the church in Laodicea was wealthy in temporal terms, but in spiritual terms had no clothes:

"For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen .." Revelation 3:17-18.

I have not been just converted into this belief, but I am more than convinced that there are many virtues when we dress to please God.

WEAR YOUR CLOTHING LIKE YOU WEAR YOUR FAITH

In this life, choosing your clothes is like choosing how you became holy in the sight of God. Wearing clothes is more like how you wear your faith at all times. God says "Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy." - Leviticus 19:2

Seasons change, Fall has just started. It gets colder each day. But I want to say that modesty in our fashion should always be worn in and out of any season.

We dress to impress the One who is waiting for us behind the clouds!

To make things simpler, we will be now selling items in sets. Like the one below, its amazing how much a simple blazer can change an outfit! This set is one of our easiest ways of being comfy and turning a simple dress into something formal ;)
